Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), which is a syndrome of impaired backflow of blood from leg veins, is widely spread (diagnosed in every 4th person living in Europe) and is virtually 2 times more frequent in women.

The conservative treatment is based on venotonics – medicinal agents with a phlebotropic effect. The horse chestnut based medicines are the best-investigated drugs among them.

AESCUSAN drops (esparma, Germany) is a good representative of horse chestnut based venotonics that is appreciated both by doctors and patients. It belongs to galenicals. The therapeutic effect of drops results from a complex of biologically active substances mutually reinforcing or modifying their effects, rather than from a single active substance. The studies show that ethanol extract of horse chestnut seeds – the basis of AESCUSAN drops – has the highest activity among all the horse chestnut galenicals (ethanol extract, alcoholate, brew, leaf, flower, seed and seed vessel tincture).

It acts threefold to reduce the inflammation, tone up the veins and stimulate the elimination of swelling (it should be noted that its anti-edema action is not inferior to the effect of compression garments); moreover, it helps to strengthen capillary vessels and accelerates regenerative processes.
